A recent report provided by Finnish scientists indicates that music helps stroke patients to develop focused attention and improve their memory. Music helps reduce depression that occurs after a stroke and also reduces confusion. Stroke patients improve faster in case they sing rather than speak.

In another study conducted on students, it is was evident that those who were into expressive writing showed lesser depression symptoms as compared to those who wrote on daily issues.
The National Institute of Health is conducting further research into expressive writing, how it impacts health etc. as well as the effects other forms of arts.
Arts may not be a substitute to medical help, but they do assist the patients in his or her recovery process. Also they improve the immune system to many illnesses and diseases caused by stress as they are creative in nature.
