- Every day, a thin line of bacteria settles around your teeth which may cause holes in your teeth, if remained ignored for a long time
- Dry mouth may make it very difficult for you to speak, eat and swallow
- You may get exposed to oral cancer, if remain careless about mouth care
- Diabetic patients have to take proper care of their mouth, or else they may suffer from heart disease, lung disease and even kidney failure
Guidelines to keep your mouth healthy
Taking proper care of your mouth doesn’t mean visiting the dentist daily or being under the constant dental supervision. The following simple guidelines will help you in taking proper care of your mouth.
- It is always better to brush your teeth thrice in a day to keep them healthy and white
- After feeding a small baby it is better to wipe their gums with a soft cloth
- When a baby starts developing the teeth, brush their teeth with a soft brush twice a day
- If your children are using fluoride toothpaste, make sure that they take less quantity of it especially those between 5-10 years of age because they swallow most of it which may leave stains on their teeth permanently
- Visit the dentist at least once in a year. It is better to visit twice for aged persons
- Avoid smoking, drinking and use of tobacco
- After every meal make sure that you rinse your mouth thoroughly with water
- Regular flossing will prevent food particles from settling on your teeth’s surface and gaps
- Avoid cold drinks and soda as they contain citric acid in them which may cause severe damage to your teeth
- Chew those gums which are specifically made for chewing after meals in order to keep your teeth healthy
It is better to visit the dentist if you observe some signs of dental problem like bleeding from your teeth, pain in jaws, or swelling in your mouth.

You need not spend the whole day on oral health care, just follow simple methods to keep your teeth healthy, like brushing your teeth twice a day, eating healthy food, using fluoride and toothpaste to clean the mouth, and avoid tobacco and alcoholic beverages.

The best way to take care of your teeth is to brush twice a day, floss once in a week, avoid sweet foods, rinse your mouth 2 times in a day with mouth wash, visit dentist every 6 months. These steps could look simple but would go a long way in taking care of your teeth if you follow them without fail and make it your habit.
The remedies mentioned above are very beneficial and effective in bringing down swelling in gums, however, i would like to share one more remedy which is easy to implement and effective in results.
warm saline water can create hypertonic environment.This environment can help in pressurizing bacterial cell wall, thereby killing the bacteria and relieving pain and swelling.You can prepare a solution by mixing two pinches of salt in a glass of warm water. The solution can be gargled several times daily.
Bark of the tree acacia arabica should be boiled in water. Gargling with this decoction can reduce the swelling of gums. Similarly, gargling with lemon water twice a day is a simple but effective home remedy for bringing down swelling gums. Bishop’s seed can be roasted into fine powder and added with mustard oil. Applying this paste on the swelling is very beneficial.
