Large nose pores are always a matter of concern for most women, especially those with an oily and combination skin. It can be seen in women of all ages and all skin types. The size of these large nose pores can grow even more large if not treated properly. It can also lead to blackheads, discolorations, unavoidable sebum production, pimples etc. They can even affect your look if left untreated at the initial stages.
The large nose pores occur mostly on the T-zone (consisting of the chin, forehead and the area surrounding the nose). These pores are the openings of the hair follicles. They help in protecting our skin by lubricating it. These pores make a way for the oil glands present underneath to secret the oil and maintain the moisture and oiliness to the skin. Our skin breathes through these pores. These pores also help in supplying the nutrients to the skin. More oil glands are present in the nose area than other areas, so these pores occur mostly near the nose area.
Causes Of Large Nose Pores :
- Genetics: If either of your parents have large pores, then you are prone to suffer too. Skin types generally pass through generations. Parents with oily skin pass this to their offspring. Oily skin have been seen to have larger looking pores
- Sun damage: The harmful sun rays thickens our skin. The skin cells get collected around the pores and make the pores appear larger. The sun also damages the collagen and elastin of our skin. Our skin loses its elasticity. The absence of the collagen (which tightens the pores to form small size) helps to pores to grow in size
- Hormonal changes, Puberty and Menopause: During puberty our skin tend to produce more oil. Same happens in women undergoing menopause. The basic reason is the changes in the levels of the hormones like androgen. These hormones stimulate the sebaceous gland. These glands then produce more oil. So the pores enlarge to hold these excess oil secreted out if the oil glands
- Overuse Of Make Up: majority of beauty products contain harsh chemicals. They are very harmful to the epidermis (skin). They can clog the pores making them enlarged. Waxes, oils and some chemical fillers are common
- Improper skin care: Improper cleaning, trapped dirt, trapped dead skin cells and over use of make ups are causing larger nose pores in about 78 percent women. You have to remove your make ups in the evening. Try cleaning your face twice a day. Use moisturizers regularly and exfoliate your skin at least twice in a week. Else you will have ugly pores on your face. You have to remove the dead skin cells and oil from your skin. Else these will get collected around your pores. This will make the pores look larger
- Diet and Rest: The pores on our skin can grow larger with diets excessive in refined foods, fats and sugars. They help in secreting more oil and body wastes which get collected around the pore and makes it grow in size. Diet should be maintained with drinking lots of water in a day. Even sleep can be another reason of increased secretion of oil in skin and enlarging the pore size
- Aging: As we grow older, our skin tends to lose its elasticity. Our skin shrinks due to loss of collagen, elastin and water from our skin. This shrinkage pulls the edges of the pores and makes them appear larger in size.
- Smoking and Alcohol Abuse: Smoking and alcohol can cause blotchy skin with large sized pores. Alcohol consumption can lead to dehydration of the skin. This can cause enlargement of the pores
- Acne, Blackheads and Pimples: These are caused when the pores are left untreated. Squeezing of pimples, acnes or blackheads may cause stretching of the pores
- Excessive Oil Production: In many cases, the oil production in the skin is much more than the normal level. This force opens the pores and thereby, increasing its size to release more oil
